School attendance opens the door to success, not only now but also for the future. The consequences for low attendance are serious for all children and also for the community. In addition to falling behind in academics, students who are not in school on a regular basis are more likely to get into trouble with the law and cause problems in their communities.
Studies that have tracked students from elementary school through high school found that drop out patterns were linked with poor attendance. The consequences of dropping out of high school are severe! Students that drop out are more likely to be unemployed. Those who do work earn a lot less than a high school or college graduate.
When children attend school, they build their academic knowledge and are more prepared for a career. They also learn important social skills they will use through-out their lives. At school, students also receive support around their emotional growth, which affects their mental health and well-being.
Students’ absence from school not only affect their own education but the education of others in the class. Our expectation for attendance is that students attend 100% of the time unless they are sick. Mary Eyre’s vision is graduation for all students. We are preparing students to be college and career ready. We need students to be at school to help prepare them for their future goals.
Let’s work together to help our students build success today, tomorrow, and in the future!
